Shelby Gillen

Audiology Extern

Shelby Gillen is a fourth-year graduate clinician completing her externship at Chesapeake Hearing Centers. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in speech, language, and hearing sciences at Auburn University in May 2020 and is continuing her education there for a Doctor of Audiology degree, expected by May 2024.

Shelby completed multiple clinical rotations in Alabama at sites such as Hughston Medical Group ENT; Hearing Solutions; Auburn University at Montgomery; and Children’s Rehabilitation Services. Her current interests include handling auditory processing disorder testing as well as working with veterans and nonprofits. Her work at Auburn included organizations such as the Office of Accessibility, Pups on the Plains animal rescue, and the Student Academy of Audiology.

Shelby was inspired to enter the speech-language pathology and audiology fields after spending most of her childhood in speech therapy. During her undergraduate work, she fell in love with the science behind hearing aids and the ability to help her patients better communicate with their loved ones. In her free time, she enjoys dog rescue volunteering, photography, and lazy days with her husband and beloved pooches.
